What are Fillers?
Before explaining what hyaluronic acid fillers are (also known simply as ‘fillers’ or dermal fillers) it is important to understand what hyaluronic acid is and its function in the body. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule found naturally in the skin which plays a crucial role in maintaining skin hydration and suppleness. As you age hyaluronic acid reduces in the skin leading to less hydrated thin skin and wrinkles. In the body hyaluronic acid only lasts for 2 -3 days because it is broken down by enzymes in the body.
Fillers are made of chains of hyaluronic acid molecules and are similar in structure to the natural hyaluronic acid found in the skin but to prevent them being dissolved in only a few days they undergo a special bonding process in the lab which crosslinks them (ie forms extra bonds between the molecule strands) making them more durable and resistant to breakdown by our body’s enzymes. This enables them to last months rather than only days.
Beyond their aesthetic benefits fillers stimulate collagen production, a vital protein that maintains skin’s firmness and elasticity. As we age, collagen production dwindles, contributing to sagging and loss of facial volume. By strategically introducing hyaluronic acid through skin fillers, we embark on a journey to restore volume, contour facial features, and soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
One of the undeniable benefits of skin fillers is their versatility. Whether addressing ‘nose to lip’ or ‘mouth to chin’ lines these injections provide a tailored approach to meet individual aesthetic goals. At Stratum Clear Clinic our goal is to create results that are both noticeable and natural.
The minimal downtime associated with dermal filler injections makes them an attractive option for those seeking quick yet impactful results. A lunchtime appointment can yield refreshed and revitalized skin, allowing you to resume your daily activities with a newfound confidence.
